Who
we are
History
We have over 30 years of experience in the contracting business and more than 10 years building trailers. Over time, we realized we were receiving fines and out-of-service violations due to the way we were wiring and connecting our trailers.
“One day while I was attaching the breakaway cable to a truck, I was informed that I was in violation of the law. Once the person explained why I was incorrect it made sense. The breakaway system is the last resort in a trailer decoupling. That is why it needs to be totally independent of the hitch, safety chains, safety chain connection point , or ball. By being independent if everything else should fail, it will still activate the breakaway system.” Niel S.
On my next trip, I heeded their advice. I attached the breakaway cable to an independent member of the truck. It was a very difficult thing to do at 4:30 in the morning in the dark, but I am glad I did.
A few hours later, I was subject to a level two DOT inspection and passed without any fines or out of service tickets. Had I hooked it up the way I normally did that would not have been the case. This caused us to think about the whole breakaway system and realize that most OEM vehicles do not have a designated Independent spot for this cable.
Tow Safer.
Tow Smarter.
Towtether.
After a few prototypes , we developed the TowTether. Because of its design, it is very easy to attach the breakaway cable to it. It provides an independent replaceable attachment point that satisfies the intent of FMCSA 393.43 (d). We have tested it with all major OEM brands and stock towing setups.
